William T. Couch, director of the University of Chicago Press (1945-1950), who was purportedly dismissed by chancellor Robert M. Hutchins for publishing "Americans Betrayed: Politics and the Japanese Evacuation" in 1949. Authored by Morton Grodzins, professor of Political Science at the university, it was the first major study of the internment during World War II of Japanese-American citizens.
